Shortcuts

Backspace clears a key. Escape disables optional shortcuts. If a site steals a shortcut, use a site rule with Override shortcuts (and per-key blocking) for that URL.

General

Enable
On: site rules can block sites (blacklist). Off: only matched rules keep Speeder on (whitelist).

Work on audio
Also controls plain HTML5 audio (not just video). Turn off if you only want Speeder on video players.

Show controls on ambient/slideshow videos
Also shows Speeder on muted autoplay loops used as animated cards or slideshow artwork. Genuine video players are always controlled regardless of this setting.

Playback

Remember playback speed
Stores speeds you set with Speeder per source so revisiting the same media can restore them. Separate from “Force last saved speed,” which fights players that reset rate.

Force last saved speed
Useful when a video player tries to override the speed you set in Speeder.

Keyboard shortcut target
Closest changes the video nearest the pointer (falling back to the most visible active player). Change all keeps the legacy behavior on pages with multiple players.

Controller

Hide controller by default
Starts with the overlay hidden; use shortcuts (show/hide, move) or site behavior to reveal it.

Default controller location
Corner or edge anchor for the hover bar. Site rules can override this for specific URLs.

Controller opacity
0–1 (decimals). Lower is more transparent. Applies to the in-page controller only.

Controller margin (px)
Shifts the whole control from its preset position (CSS margins). Top and bottom. 0–200.

Hide with controls
Fade the controller in and out with the video interface: perfect sync on YouTube, idle-based elsewhere.

Auto-hide timer (seconds)
Seconds of inactivity before hiding: 0.1–15 for non-YouTube sites.

Subtitle sync

Enable subtitle nudge
Makes tiny playback changes to help keep subtitles aligned and allows nudge toggle controls.

Start subtitle nudge enabled
When off, each video starts with nudging disabled until you toggle it.

Nudge interval (milliseconds)
How often to nudge: 250–1000. Smaller values are more frequent. Default: 250.

In-page hover bar, extension popup bar, and Lucide icons for buttons.

Drag blocks or use arrow keys to reorder. Press a block to move it between Active and Available.

Configure which buttons appear in the browser popup control bar.

Shows buttons in the extension popup (toolbar icon). Can be overridden per site in site rules.

When on, the popup copies the hover bar’s buttons and order. When off, customize the popup layout below.

Button icons (Lucide)

Search icons from the Lucide set (fetched from jsDelivr). Custom icons are cached in local storage and included when you export settings. Subtitle nudge icons use two menu entries (enabled and disabled), not the bar block id nudge.

Site rules

Use plain domains or Regex patterns like /(.+)youtube\.com(\/*)$/gi. Turn on a row only when you want that group to override the general defaults above. Regex and plain-path rules test both the literal URL and a safely decoded path, query, and hash, so readable text can match %xx-encoded URLs too.

Changes save automatically.

Extension controls not appearing?

Speeder works with HTML5 video and, when enabled above, HTML5 audio. Check that the current site is enabled, then use the popup’s “Rescan page for videos” action after a player loads dynamically. Browser-internal pages and players that do not expose HTML5 media to extensions cannot be controlled.
